Marlene D’Agostino, born Marlene May Cercone, was born and raised in Whittier, California, in a tough East L.A. neighborhood known as The Acres. Life there wasn’t easy — it was a rough, gang-ridden area where families worked hard just to get by. Growing up as one of six children — five girls and one boy — in a small two-bedroom home with her parents, Frank and Elizabeth “Betsy” Cercone, Marlene learned the meaning of grit, faith, and perseverance from a young age.
Marlene became a mother early in life, welcoming her eldest son, Keith, followed five years later by Kevin. Nearly two decades later, she and her husband, Anthony D’Agostino, welcomed their daughter, Emilie. Together, Marlene and Anthony built MD Medical Management, turning determination and hustle into a thriving business. Anthony also plays a role in Marlene’s passion for baking — especially when it comes to her crowd-favorite cookies.
Family remains at the center of Marlene’s life. Her grandchildren, Sophia and Chase, are her greatest joy, spending weekends at her home filled with warmth, laughter, and the smell of freshly baked bread.
The Humble Loaf is Marlene’s love letter to her roots — a reminder that even from the humblest beginnings in a gritty neighborhood, beauty, purpose, and success can rise. Every loaf and cookie she bakes carries that same spirit of resilience, family, and gratitude.
